reclaimed factory maple
napa vineyard retreat | napa county, ca
Friends and foodies tackled the remodel of their vineyard retreat by doubling the size of the original kitchen and positioning it as a central feature of the 750 square foot great room with 22 foot vaulted ceiling.
They chose our reclaimed factory maple flooring throughout the 3000 square foot space, a soulful complement to this industrial modern home away from home. The hard "work worn" look of our factory maple is a far cry from other rustic cabin woods. The century old material had never held a finish, so scarring and muted varied patina abounds.
This specific batch of maple was reclaimed from the Wilson Shirt Factory in South Bend, Indiana. This plant was the manufacturing center of the company and employed mostly women in its busiest times during the 1930s. When UE processed the material, several buttons were found embedded in the scarred surface of the wood.
Not pictured are a set of stair treads, which we sourced from a school in Randolph, Wisconsin.
