Behind every great restaurant is a great kitchen. So, while you may not recognize the Boelter name, chances are you’ve eaten a steak off one of their commercial grills, had a beer poured from one of their taps, or clinked some of their glassware in celebration.
This Wisconsin-based designer of commercial kitchens recently opened a 30,000 square foot showroom and office in the Goose Island District in Chicago. Best known for beer, this manmade island was actually once of the city’s great industrial hubs. Boelter’s new home occupies the old Burhop Box and Packaging warehouse on Division Street.
We were happy to be brought into this project by Cherie Peet-Grutzmacher, who worked with the Boelter team to develop a design that highlighted the spirit of the repurposed factory space.
Boelter’s SuperStore and corporate offices are outfitted with following reclaimed furnishings:
- Factory Maple I-Beam
- Factory Maple Waterfall Bar
- 2X Wright Oak Table
- Split Timber Oak Table
- 3X Arel Pine Table
- Sliding Barn Door Wall Unit
- Tobacco Lath Nesting Table
In addition, Urban manufactured a custom reclaimed oak knife cabinet as well as supplied reclaimed wood for product displays and shelving.
Food service professionals and other guests to the Chicago location walk across 9,600 square feet of Urban’s reclaimed mixed hardwoods as they shop for everything from refrigerators to knives.
